Official Recognition of the Tigray Genocide
Since November 4, 2020, there have been clear breaches of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. An attempt to kill members of the population, cause serious bodily and mental harm, deliberately inflict on life conditions of the group to bring about it’s physical destruction, and take measures to prevent births have all taken place. Rhetoric indicating intent to destroy the Tigrayan population has been heard from key players in the Ethiopian government, including Abiy Ahmed. The violent acts committed by Ethiopian and Eritrean troops at the behest of the Ethiopian and Eritrean governments must be recognized as a genocide against the Tigrayan people.
